HDMI cables are ever influencing our lives today. These amazing cables have evolved to become a must have for any capable electronics. The evolution of these cables has led to many varying types for different levels of electronics. Choosing these cables may seem difficult so take a look at the information here to make an educated decision. Below is a breakdown of all the versions out today. Most of the new electronics you will find in your local retailer will have the options for the “higher end” cables you see below (1.3,1.4.).

HDMI 1.0: In the last month of 2002 this cable was released and the original specs allowed for 165MHz bandwidth and a max of 4.9Gbps which is enough to run 1080p video. at the time, this cable was all you need for your basic HDTV. This cable is also only capable of two-channel audio.

HDMI 1.1: In the month of May in 2004 this cable made it’s debut and added the ability for multichannel audio, max 5.1 channels.

HDMI 1.2: August, 2005 this cable is released and allows for connections to PC’s and adds multichannel audio to one-bit formats. The cable also led to the future of using other low voltage devices.

HDMI 1.2a: With this cable came a mandate that cable manufacturers must submit longer cable lengths to ensure their tech compliance. This version also required all cables be inspected and approved by HDMI Licensing LLC. Also added command sets for remote control functions.

HDMI 1.3: This cable now included the “deep Color” standard which supports 10, 12 and 16 bit color which can produce over a billion color possibilities. The bandwidth was also increased on this cable to 340MHz and a bit-rate of 10.2 Gbps. This cable has plenty to run any 3D video. This cable can also be used on the new 3D Tv’s.

There has been some modifications made as the 1.3a and 1.3b where released but it is only tech specs/manufacturing and does not interfere with functions or features.

HDMI 1.4: This is the newest and perhaps the best of the HDMI cables out there today. This cable introduces Ethernet capabilities as well as the ability to share internet connections with other devices via your home network. This cable also allows your TV’s tuner to playback into your home theater receiver, a feature called “audio return channel”. Now you can enjoy crystal clear sound through your HDMI capable receiver.

It is important to check the specs of the components you are going to purchase or already own. Keep in mind that even though a unit may say it works with 1.1 for example, it may require a better version to use all the capabilities it has. A safe rule of thumb would be to keep in mind all the features of the device and the more they have the better the HDMI cable you will need. A safe bet would be version 1.3 or higher. If you are buying a new 3D tv it is recommended that you purchase a 1.4 version HDMI cable. Again, this is the latest version of the cable and it has all the power and features you will need.

In conclusion, when using any of today’s newest electronics you will encounter the HDMI cable and interface. This little piece of technology has changed the way we watch TV, listen to music and a whole lot more. When looking for the right cable, remember, check the specs and keep in mind the amount of features on the unit. Be sure to shop around as cables can vary, sometimes vastly, in price.

How To Clean An RCA Projection TV

How to clean an RCA projection TV

If you are like most people who have a big screen projection TV and have noticed after years of wear, a fuzz and haze on your screen , it’s time to clean it. Cleaning your projection TV is not that difficult. There really is no need to pay someone to come out to your house and clean it, it’s something you can do yourself.  Please be sure to unplug the power from your TV and keep in mind there may be the voltage still running through it when it’s opened.  Most TVs are sealed and will not hurt you even with low voltage. If you have an RCA projection TV or almost any other type of projection TV you want to start by first removing the screen. This is usually accomplished by removing a large number of screws from the back of the unit. Generally, the screws are not standard Flathead or Phillips. Most of the screws will have a square hole and will require square tipped bits. These bits can be picked up at your local hardware retailer. The bits themselves are very cheap, if you don’t already have some kicking around in the toolbox. Once you find the right square tipped bit to fit the screws on your particular projection TV you are ready to begin.  Carefully remove each screw using a hand held screwdriver or an automatic one at a very low speed. Once you have removed all the screws you will then be able to pop off the screen. As always, throughout this process you must be very careful. Having more than one person will make this entire task much easier.  After you have removed the screen lay it down on a flat surface, carpet is a safe bet.
Now that the screen is off your TV you should now be able to see inside to the lenses. On a projection TV there’s three different color lenses. If you look close you’ll see a layer of dust on each one of the lenses. That dust is the first important part in cleaning your TV. Carefully take a fine DAMP cloth, nothing course whatsoever, not wet, and gently wipe each lens in a circular motion. After you’ve done this let it dry for a minute and repeat with a dry cloth only.
The next step in cleaning your projection TV, be it RCA or any other brand is to clean the mirror in the back. You will see this mirror above the lenses mounted to the body of the TV. When cleaning this mirror be sure to use caution. Gently wipe the mirror with a fine cloth and as long as you see that there’s no dust on it, take no further action. If there is still dust on your mirror gently wipe it with a damp cloth and then again with a dry one. Do not use chemicals when cleaning anything inside your TV.
The final step in the cleaning process is cleaning your screen. With the screen lying on the carpet, gently wipe and clean the inside of the screen. If you tilt your head down and get the light to reflect on it you can really see what needs to be cleaned and what you’ve already cleaned. Using your fine damp cloth clean all the dust out and dry with the dry cloth.  Gently turn the screen over and repeat the process again.
After everything has been wiped down and dried it’s now time to put the screen back onto the body. On the RCA projection TV’s this screen should be inserted from the bottom onto a pin and then tilted into position.  If you don’t have an RCA TV your TV may be very similar. Just take care and notice how you took it apart and how it should go back together, it’s not that difficult. Once the screen is back in place take your screws and replace them in their holes. Take care when getting the screw to its final torque. Gently tighten each screw.
Next step is to turn your TV on and look in awe at how much brighter and clearer your picture is. As a side note, most projection TV’s are designed to be cleaned and once you remove the screen, everything else is sealed away.

Nintendo 3DS Release Date. Nintendo 3ds News and Release.

Announced at the 2010 E3 Conference the Nintendo 3DS will be coming out in a big way. This new little device will pack a punch like no other device of it’s kind. The system will have full 3D capability and will allow you to play these games without the need for those crazy 3D glasses. It was expected that at E3 the release date and the price point would be released but Nintendo did not hint at either of these. There are different rumors floating around on both of these points. Some people claim they have the inside information on the release date of the Nintendo 3DS but it is all speculation at this point.
The best know guess for the release is March 2011. I think this may be sooner than that. It is a possibility that the Nintendo 3DS could hit the store shelves by the holiday season this year.

There is a much higher potential for a bigger release during the holiday season then during a random month like March. Consumers will eat up an opportunity to pick up this cutting edge device for their friends and family as a gift.
The price of that gift is still not know for sure. Again there are rumors to the price but using common sense may be the best way to make that guess. The Nintendo DSi is sold now for around $169, this version has internet capabilities and is the newest version thus far. A guess would be around $200, maybe slightly more, for the Nintendo 3DS. The price could not be to much higher as Nintendo still wants to make sales.
Like most of the new technologies that come out today this will be another great step in the right direction. This device will undoubtedly bring gaming in a new direction and offer it’s users a new and exciting way to play. Keep your eye on Nintendo to be breaking more news about the Nintendo 3DS and it’s release date in the coming months.

Is Facebook Going to Begin Charging?

There has been a lot of talk all around the internet lately about whether Facebook will begin charging its customers or not. The most current, few and far between reports are leaning towards no.

Facebook is a valuable tool for millions of people. After re-posting their new terms of service in march Facebook found an overwhelming response to the changes. In an effort to calm the crowds Facebook quickly pulled the new terms and posted the old terms of service back up as what their calling a “placeholder.” Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook says “Wow, terms of service on the Web are quite common.” The fact that people were reading ours so carefully and bothering to protest made us realize how important this issue is and [made us] want to get involved with users-not just on the substance of this, which we were always in a good place on, but on the process.” After the process of re-posting the old terms of service Facebook then went ahead and published Facebook Principles and Facebook rights and responsibilities. They posted the new literature publicly to Facebook groups. They asked users to comment on the literature and if there are enough comments they will allow a vote by the users.

Others that are saying “no way” Facebook will charge are also warning about the groups that have been started to fight the cause. The issue is, there are now claims that the groups have only been set up in order to spread malware or hijack your computer. Many people from around the internet have commented about this problem.

Snopes Warns: “The protest page was a trap for the unwary; clicking on certain elements of it initiated a script that hijacked users’ computers. Some of those who did venture a click had their computers taken over by a series of highly objectionable images while malware simultaneously attempted to install itself onto their computers.”

Rumors have been floating around about what the cost would be in order to keep your Facebook account. The lowest I’ve heard is $3.99 month. I have also seen $5.99 a month and as much as $14.99 a month. Any of those charges are steep unless Facebook really steps up with what they have to offer. I don’t feel many people would be willing to pay $15 a month to type what they’re doing at the moment into a box. It’s free now and convenient and works. Charges like this may bring a blow to Facebook if they were true.

It seems that most people don’t really know the outcome of the June-July possibility that Facebook will begin charging. What we do know is that going to any groups relating to “anti-charging” are a quick way to have your computer taken over and/or loaded with malware. We also know that Facebook is well aware of what it may do to their company if they were to begin charging.

So in conclusion, I would say at the moment we don’t need to be concerned with Facebook all of a sudden changing the rules. They don’t want us to go as much as we don’t want them to charge. We enjoy the use of Facebook and the ability it gives us to interact with people from all around the world. We thank Facebook and ask them to please stay away from any type of charge.
